Description
Currently, there is a variety of different cell based next-generation immunotherapies in the research
pipeline for both, autologous and allogeneic treatment options. However, the technical realization of such
therapies still faces fundamental challenges: labor-intensive manual processing, limited automation, and
insufficient scalability and the different approaches come with several different requirements.
Therefore, we developed a modular and automated platform technology, specifically designed for the
manufacturing of a variety of cell therapy products. At the core of the system is a sterile-reconnector, a
modification system for the genetic modification using viruses and a dynamic cultivation system that
enables continuous cell expansion from inoculation to final volume within a single vessel. The system
design also allows for the direct integration of mRNA-LNP-based modification —without additional
transfers or manual intervention. Process monitoring is supported by integrated sensors and a digital twin,
which models key culture parameters in real time and enables predictive interventions for resource-
efficient and cell-friendly control.
The platform addresses essential requirements for the scalable and standardized production of allogeneic
and autologous cell products, with a strong focus on integration, automation, and digital process
intelligence. It provides a technological foundation for future applications in both preclinical and industrial
development settings.
